Just watched Dungeon & Dragons:Honor Among Thieves.

Not bad.

The CGI seemed to be extremely well executed.

The "hither and thither" trick/spell was fun.

The many of the fighting scenes were amusing.

I really enjoyed it. Much better than the one that came out 20+ years ago. It was a lot of fun seeing the Forgotten Realms setting come to life on screen, and there's also a fun easter egg later in the movie for fans of the old Saturday morning cartoon.

oh yeah i used to watch the hell out of that cartoon.
and i believe it was paired up with that one cartoon about that knight
and it was an expensive video game in the arcades.

It was quite ok as a fantasy heist movie. It didn't bank on the audience knowing their way around the Forgotten Realms, and still it managed to make theheist planning look so much like an RPG team making plans around a gaming
table.

Woke factor was not bad, but it was present.

I didn't think of it as people sitting around a table and
making plans. I just saw people on a journey who met
obstacles, consequences, and figured out solutions.

some reviews are saying how the different genders are slanted are woke elements.

I didn't notice any wokeness in the storyline.

The main cast of characters is more "diverse" than usual and the only clearly straight white male is a loser. The film makers said it was a deliberate decision, so there is a small woke factor, but you will only notice if you go looking for it, which in this day and age is quite bearable.

I also miss making movie reviews, but I have not been watching much new stuff. Life keeps getting in the way.

BTW, the reason this movie scored so high for me is because if you are a knowledgeable RPG player, you will notice all the RPG winks, but they are introduced in such a way that they don't interfere and stick out if you are a regular Joe watching a movie.

i think the reason it's good is they accidentally paralleled the old school 80s movies where the white male main character.. is a loser. ;) for it to be good propaanda, he'd have to truely ruin the story. instead it has cult classic vibes. especially because it likely wont get a sequel (victim of
covid, endless unfortunate release dates, etc)

I think the film didn't do well in office because fantasy in general does very poorly in office.

Well, some fantasy DOES well in office, but it is never the heroic type. Urban fantasy used to have a decent shot at success, though.

D&D: Honor among Thieves had many things stacked against it that had nothing todo with release dates or the status of the economy. For starters, the trailers
I watched made it look like yet another superheroesque movie, of those people is already tired of. Then there is the fact the former Dungeon and Dragons movie was bad. No, it wasn't bad: it was a calamity only comparable to the Second World War (fun fact, I liked it, but it was horrendous nevertheless).
