Why would this be considered "European"? Those baud rates were used everywhere as far as I know.

I don't think the rest of the world knows that americans are flexable.
We use 'standard' and metric forms of measurement. we just have a causal method and a more professional or whatever method.

I'm in my late 40s and we were taught the metric system in school. People in other countries don't really understand that; they think we are backwards and behind.

I use fahrenheit personally in a causal setting and have no problem using celcius at work.

A lot of americans understand both.

in regards to date formats i use both but use american style for causal use and the other way for naming my backups.

I weas just recalling the scene in "Masters of the Air" where 3 airmen
shot down in a bombing raid are taken underground by the resistance.
They ask them a series of questions (How many home runs did Babe Ruth
hit, etc) and then ask them to write down their names and the date they
    were shot down.

They all proceed to walk out from the building and the resistance guy
drops back a step and shoots one of them in the head. He'd written the
date in mm/dd/yy, and so they used that to determine he was european and
    a spy.

In the 1980's where I worked began getting daily reports dated YYYYMMDD.
We used to talk on the phone to another place saying all of the (partial) report plus our data; but now could enter our data to a server, and a hour later get the complete report from the server.
I overheard a Ham radio operator say his workplace was trying to figure a way to sort Daily Records so I told him about my work using YYYYMMDD and he said that would be of help.

As others here do, I use that Date Format for computer files.
In public I write the Military Style DD 3 letter abbrv. for the Month YYYY.
I know it looks weird to other folks who aren't acquainted with Military Style Dates.
    Today is: 09Dec2024.

I was fooled too by the European Style that uses Slash Marks or Dashes as separators in the date until I read other comments in this thread.
    But I finally caught on.
