Older browsers can't handle the encryption algos used today, heck, some even don't support anything other than port 80.

As far as sign ups, I'm mostly doing the projects for my own entertainment/nostalgia.

I see both sides. I like the "encrypt everything to make it harder to
encrypt the important stuff" angle, but I also serve lots of content
that doesn't contain PCI, isn't sensitive, and I couldn't care less if
it's not encrypted in transit - especially smolweb stuff like a blog

Although the tilde does have a SSL cert - that's one benefit of tildes
- making it easier to encrypt by needing one cert only.

I recently started collecting the computers I had when I was running my BBS. Ihave a C64 and a Amiga 500. I also have a collection of vintage Macs that
I never had experience with. It was fun to learn OS's 6 thru 9 and then use appletalk to network them all. I also collect SCSI hard drives and enclosures because always wanted as many drives as possibles in the 80's but couldn't afford but a couple. I guess I am making up for that "lack of HDDs" now :)

Oh fun! Was the C64 your first computer? My friend had a C64 and I really wanted one because the games and sound were better than my Apple 2.

Only just recently did I get into the Amiga after talking with folks who had/have them. What a great machine and so ahead of its time back in the day! So far I have only purchased an emulator for the Amiga, but maybe one day I'll actually get one.

Is your C64 and Amiga actual older computers, or modern ones (like the C64 Ultimate)?
